Windshield Wipers

The ability to see out your front windshield is essential for vehicle safety, and your windshield wipers are the parts that keep your windshield clear of rain, snow, and ice. Over time, your windshield wiper blades wear down and need to be replaced. Our GMC parts department is happy to share some signs that you need a new set.

1. Streaking or Smearing

If you’re noticing streaks or smears across your windshield when your wipers are being used, it’s a sign that your blades are not making proper contact with the glass. This is usually caused by worn blades and can affect visibility while driving in rain or snow.

2. Skipping or Missing Sections

If your wiper blades are skipping or missing certain sections of your windshield when turned on, it could be due to a bent wiper arm or worn wiper blade.

3. Squeaking or Chattering

Another sign that your wiper blades need to be replaced is if they are making unusual noises, such as chattering or squeaking, when being used.

4. Visible Damage

Any visible damage to the wiper blades, such as tears or cracks, can cause them to not properly clear water or snow from the windshield, leading to streaking or skipping.

5. Aging

If you cannot remember the last time you replaced your wiper blades and they are at least six months old, it is likely time for a replacement. If you fail to change out your wiper blades, they can become hardened over time, leading to reduced effectiveness.
