Winter in Fairless Hills, PA, can bring its share of snow and ice. If you find that your Buick or GMC vehicle is stuck in the snow, don’t panic. At Peruzzi Buick GMC, our Buick service technicians have plenty of experience with getting cars unstuck from snow drifts or just snowy roads. Here are some helpful tips to get you safely back on your way.

Assess the Situation

Before you start revving your engine or digging your car out, take a moment to assess your surroundings. If you’re on a busy road, turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers and take care not to get in the way of moving traffic, as braking distances are increased in snow. Also, watch for obstacles like ice, deep snow, or curbs.

Clear a Path

Grab a snow shovel or similar tool and clear snow away from the tires and the undercarriage of your vehicle. The goal is to create a clear path in the direction you wish to move.

Make a Gentle Rocking Motion

Shifting between drive and reverse, gently apply the gas to create a rocking motion in your Buick or GMC car. If possible, avoid spinning your tires, as this can dig you deeper. If you have traction control in your vehicle, turn it off temporarily for better grip.

Add Traction

If the gentle rocking doesn’t work, use cardboard, sand, kitty litter, or your car’s floor mats to create traction for your car’s tires to grip.
