What are your plans for this summer? If you want them to involve taking an epic road trip that might involve mountains, water, and wild terrain, you of course can’t bring just any vehicle along. It has to be up for the challenge, which is why the 2022 GMC Canyon could be perfect.
Outstanding Power
The base engine in the GMC Canyon is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that puts out 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 2.8-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine that offers 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. For the most muscle you’ll want the 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque.
Both four-cylinder engines are paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, while the V6 get an eight-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is available.
Fantastic Off-Road Prowess
If you intend to explore some interesting terrain, you should consider going with the AT4 trim. First of all, this comes standard with four-wheel drive, along with an off-road-tuned suspension system. You will also get 17-inch wheels with 31-inch all-terrain tires, a transfer case skid plate, and a locking rear differential.
The AT4 Off-Road Performance Edition package adds a one-inch lift to the front suspension, rocker panel guards, and skid plates for the engine and transmission. A bed-mounted roll bar with off-road lights is also available.
Impressive Towing and Hauling Numbers
If your trip will involve bringing a lot of gear or perhaps towing a camper or boat, the GMC Canyon won’t let you down. The base engine has a tow rating of 3,500 pounds, and it can haul up to 1,500 pounds. The turbodiesel will let you tow up to 7,700 pounds and haul up to 1,580 pounds.
