Here at our GMC service center at Peruzzi Buick GMC, not only do our technicians handle advanced tasks like brake repairs and transmission replacements, but we also help with more everyday issues like replacing your key fob battery. The key fob is one of the most commonly used features of your GMC vehicle, and sometimes dead batteries are inevitable. Here is an overview of how to change the dead battery in your key fob.

Buying a Replacement Battery

The majority of key fobs for GMC SUVs run on three-volt CR2032 batteries, which typically last around three or four years. When they do run out of juice, the first step in replacing them is to find a flathead screwdriver and a replacement CR2032 battery. Our friendly GMC parts dealers here at Peruzzi Buick GMC are happy to help you procure a battery, and we can make sure you’re purchasing the correct one for your fob.

Replacing the Battery

Once you have the battery and screwdriver, simply pry open the back panel of the key fob. During this step, take care not to force the panel and break the fob. Next, remove the dead battery and replace it with the new one, making sure to pay attention to whether the positive side of the dead battery is facing up or down before you remove the dead battery.

Once the new battery is inside the fob, line up the two parts and snap them back in place. Most of the time, the new battery should fix the issue, but if you’re still encountering problems, you can schedule an appointment with our experts to take a look.
