GMC Lease Tips: What Not to Do When Leasing

Man signing GMC lease papers.

If you’ve decided to lease a GMC model, you’re immediately going to see a lot of benefits. First of all, this will almost certainly save you money compared to buying.

Plus, you have a ton of flexibility, as you’re only responsible for the car for a short period of time. There are some things, however, that you definitely want to avoid with your GMC lease, such as:

Driving Too Much

When you own a GMC Acadia, you can basically do what you want, including really racking up the miles. When you lease, however, you can’t – or at least you shouldn’t – do this. When you sign the lease agreement, there will be a yearly mileage stipulation that you need to adhere to. If you exceed this, you will be charged a fee per mile, which can get expensive pretty quickly.

Making Any Customizations

It’s worth stressing that you don’t own your leased vehicle; it still belongs to the dealership. While you may be tempted to put on different tires or maybe upgrade the stereo, you’re not allowed to do this. If you make any customizations to your GMC Terrain, just like with excess mileage, you will be facing a penalty fee.

Neglecting Service

In order to keep your vehicle running well, regular maintenance is important. Even though the car doesn’t technically belong to you, you’re still responsible for oil changes, tire rotations, and other essential service.

Opting Out Early

When you sign the lease contract for your new or pre-owned GMC, you’re agreeing to make the payments for the duration of the lease term. While it is possible to end the lease early, this is something you should avoid, if at all possible, as it comes with a hefty early termination fee.

If you’re looking to opt out for financial reasons, there are some potential other options. Buying the vehicle and then selling it is one thing you could do. You may also be able to find someone willing to take over the lease and transfer it.
