What Should I Expect at an EV Charging Station?
EV charging stations are public places where you can charge your electric or hybrid vehicle. Using a public EV charging station is not too different from charging with your outlet at home. The public station will have charging spaces with multiple cords, so you can find one to fit your vehicle.
Most public charging stations offer Level 2 charging, though some offer DC Fast charging as well.
What is a Level 2 Charging Station?
Level 2 charging describes EV charging at 240 volts, with a typical charging speed of about eight hours for a full charge. Most public EV charging stations have Level 2 charging, so you are most likely to use Level 2 charging outside of your home.
What is a DC Fast Charging Station?
DC Fast charging is the quickest charging method for EVs currently on the market. DC Fast charging uses 480 volts to fully charge your vehicle in just about an hour. Though it is faster, DC Fast charging should not be used as the main form of vehicle charging since it may take a toll on the electric battery with frequent use.
DC Fast charging is perfect for road trips or when you’re in a pinch and need more power.
