GMC Service

One of the most vital components of any vehicle is the engine. While there are many GMC parts inside your vehicle, your engine is what ensures your car can start moving and get you where you need to go. If something starts to go wrong with your engine, it can lead to many potential issues on the road. Visit us at Peruzzi Buick GMC for more information.

How Does a Car Engine Work?

While there are several different types of engines you may find inside a vehicle, most cars come with some form of an internal combustion engine. Put simply, the main function of your engine is to convert the heat from gasoline into power that makes your wheels move. When the burning gasoline meets the air inside your engine’s cylinders, a chemical reaction occurs and a spark is provided.

Most engines come with two main components – the cylinder and the piston. Engines can have any number of cylinders, ranging from as little as three to as many as twelve. There are also several different engine layouts, such as the in-line engine which keeps all cylinders in a row, or the V8 engine where cylinders are opposite each other to fit more cylinders in the same space.

Why Does Engine Maintenance Matter?

By keeping the engine in like-new condition, you’ll not only ensure your own safety but also the longevity of your car. If you begin to notice any of the following symptoms, you should visit our GMC service center at your earliest convenience:

  • The “Check Engine” light can indicate faulty spark plugs, an issue with your catalytic converter, or other mechanical problems
  • Exhaust smoke that’s blue or black can mean you need a complete engine repair
  • Abnormal knocking sounds mean that you should get a GMC oil change as soon as you can
  • If you notice your power isn’t what it once was, the airflow inside your engine could be a problem
